An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Accountant to join our client's Bournemouth team, offering an ideal path for those with at least AAT Level 3 or a foundational accounting qualification to advance their finance career. In this role, the selected candidate will collaborate closely with both the Transactional Processing team and the Management Accountant, contributing to the timely and high-quality production of month-end accounts.
 
Responsibilities of the Assistant Accountant include but not limited to:
 

  • Manage monthly bank reconciliations for four currency bank accounts, ensuring ledger accuracy and addressing outstanding items
  • Collaborate with the fleet manager to review and post monthly fleet car charges
  • Assess overhead spend for reasonableness, compare it to the budget, make necessary accruals, and report overspending to the Finance Manager and Cost Centre Manager
  • Identify and manage prepayments for specific costs throughout the year
  • Maintain fixed asset records
  • Monitor computer lease charges, track contract periods, and post monthly charges
  • Oversee Intercompany reconciliation and clear balance sheet codes
  • Be open to additional tasks related to the job function
 
 
The successful Assistant Accountant will require the following skills and experience:
 
  • Minimum AAT level 3 or foundation stage accounting qualification essential
  • Previous experience of auto and manual reconciliations is essential.
  • Previous experience of working in an accounts environment required.
  • Experience of double entry accounting, raising invoices and reconciling Balance Sheet accounts required.
  • Demonstrable experience of good customer service, including building relationships with employees and external stakeholders.
  • Educated to a good level of general education, to include literacy and numeracy
  • Intermediate Excel proficiency
  • Competence with computerised accounting systems, preferably SAP.
  • Deadline-driven with attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills
