Sheridan Maine are supporting our client, a well-established business in Dorset, in securing a Development Accountant on a 12-month Fixed-Term Contract (FTC) - this role is based near Poole however only requires you to be in the office once a week.

As Development Accountant this exciting role offers the chance to join a division within a larger group, with the opportunity to become a trusted business partner and team leader. You'll be working closely with both internal and external stakeholders, while playing a pivotal role in driving financial performance and supporting development activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a small management accounting team.
  • Oversee the preparation of monthly management accounts.
  • Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and ad-hoc financial reporting.
  • Cash flow management for intra-group loans and peak debt.
  • Assist with financial reporting and analysis for development and commercial activities.
  • Review and assess project appraisals for financial viability.
  • Monitor and report on the performance of the development portfolio.
  • Reconcile development costs and provide cash flow forecasting.
  • Liaise with budget holders and stakeholders to ensure financial alignment.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with external and internal stakeholders.
What We’re Looking For:
  • Qualified Accountant (CIMA, ACA, ACCA).
  • Experience in management accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting, with a background working with senior stakeholders.
  • Strong background in development accounting, ideally within the housing or construction sectors, however not essential if strengths in other areas.
  • Proficiency in financial systems, particularly with advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise effectively.
  • Knowledge of VAT and taxation as it applies to development and construction.
  • A collaborative team player who also works well independently.
  • Leadership experience, with the ability to motivate and guide your team.
